Curtisoara 2011, 5th International Workshop of Construction

14th - 28th of July 2011
This event is organised by the Artis peritia association, an organisation that values craftsmanship
as an “art of common sense”. It is patronized by Stefan Bortnowski, architect.

Location
Cula Curtisoara domain (45.108423N,23.353586E), beside the village of Curtisoara, 10km
from Tirgu Jiu, a city famous for its monumental ensemble sculpted by Brancusi.
Dates
The workshop begins on the 14th of July in the morning and finishes on the 28th of July in
the evening.

Activities during the workshop
The main objective of the workshop is to design and build different wooden elements to
complete the work started with students during the previous years (cf website). This year,
students will realize different works (complete the wood shed built last year with walls and
doors, continue the work on the “maison du compagnon”...).
During the visits, students will also have to explore the principles of a restoration project
through practical exercises.

Arrival
Students are expected to arrive in Curtisoara on the 13th in the evening. For foreign
students: note that if you arrive by plane to Bucuresti, the last train for Tirgu Jiu leaves at
17.45 and you need to count at least an hour and a half to reach the train station from the

station in Tirgu Jiu.

Accommodation
Students will sleep in traditional houses of the village museum of Curtisoara. Camp beds
will be provided on site. Students must bring their own sleeping bag. Food will be prepared
by students in teams taking turn. A good opportunity to socialize with people coming from
other backgrounds.

Cost
The workshop fee is 250 Euros. It covers food and accommodation during the workshop in
Curtisoara and all the necessary supplies and tools for the practical projects. After
confirmation of the participation of the student (1st of July), an advance of 100 Euros will
be paid on the account of Artis Peritia before the end of June. The rest will be paid by the
student on the first workshop day.

Registration
I n t e r e s t e d  s t u d e n t s  s h o u l d   s e n d   t h e i r  a p p l i c a t i o n  a s  s o o n  a s  p o s s i b l e  t o
artisperitia@gmail.com. The application must include a CV, a letter of intent and a
freehand drawing of a free subject, in a single PDF document. Closing date is June 30.
The number of places being limited, the selected students will be accepted on a first come-
first served basis. Accepted applicants will be notified on the 1st of July. To confirm the
registration to the workshop, a down payment of 100 Euros should be made before July ,
the 5th to Artis Peritia; Swift: RZBR ROBU, IBAN: RO62 RZBR 0000 0600 1214 2125. The
balance will be payed upon arrival in Curtisoara.
Equipment
-sleeping bag
-working equipment: reinforced construction-site shoes, rugged pants, gloves...
-personal drawing tools
-weather might get sunny and hot so solar protection is advised.

Practical remarks
Official languages spoken during the workshop will be english, french and Romanian.
We do not provide insurance for students for this workshop.
